Here we have a very interesting demonstration.  Standardized potentiometer codes were not common until 1947.  On this Steel, as shown below, one pot has the 1947 code '304' (Stackpole Company), '7' (1947), and '07' (the 7th week ...of 1947).  The numeral '7' could be any year between 1947 and 2007;  But we have the other pre-code pot to see that the coded pot is identical and thus reasonably assuring that the coded pot is 1947.  The code 220-2 is a proprietary number, either the manufacturer Stackpole's part model number or a jobber's model or part number, stamped-on by Stackpole.
