Page 3;  Dressing the Neck's Nut:
The nut had not been refaced in a long time so it's well designed slots, radiused on the tuners side, had become slightly deformed and left the strings top plane uneven at the nut.  I filled in some of the slots on the bass end with white epoxy and then refaced the nut and it's slots.

Masking tape was applied to the front and back faces to keep any epoxy put into any slot from running out onto either of the nut's faces.  A string gauge slant guide line was drawn on the tape as a time saving guide.  After the epoxy cures overnight, then the slots can be faced right through the masking tape.
The radiused slots redressed.  Notice that the strings side are set to playing heights while the tuners side is radiused downward to hold the strings into the slots and provide a radius for the strings bending down towards the tuners rather than a sharp turn which shortens the sustain life of strings:
The nut had become discolored a bit over it's long life, and didn't match the white epoxy's color;  So I masked off the Steel and repainted the nut with white epoxy paint.  Notice that a strip of masking tape was placed on the top of the nut to keep the paint out of the slots.

When masking off anything being painted, ...make sure each and every masking paper flap and joint is taped over to ensure that no overspray will enter and tunnel into / onto the guitar.
Here is the entire guitar masked off.  The masking paper also protects the Steel while handling from the bench, during painting and back to the bench.  I like to have at least 3 layers of paper for masking.
Here is the masked-off nut after painting.
