After wiping down the top with mild soap and water and lightly scrubbing corrosion with catalytic penetrating oil applied to a scratchless 3M scrub pad: This nominal corrosion can be cleaned up much better with some disassembly and even better by using a Dremel motor with a non-metallic scrubbing wheel and buffing wheel with compound. |

Irregular sheen on the tolex and handle is because it is still damp from being wiped down. Areas marked by yellow brackets were scrubbed lightly with mist of catalytic penetrating oil applied to a small corner of a no-scratch 3M scrub pad. |

Top moisture has dried in this picture. Once the tolex tags are glued down, then the tolex itself can be made to shine again by wiping down with Ace Lub-E light aerosol oil sprayed onto a rag and then wiped down again with a clean, soft dry rag to remove any excess oil. Lub-E works excellent to put oils back into dried and dull plastic and painted surfaces. I use only Lub-E to polish guitars finish and apply a thin corrosion inhibiting coat to guitars metals; And same with amplifiers. |
