NOTICE the cleats that hold the latch top lip in place. This cleats and rivets are holding the hardware onto these old fibreboard cases, ...AND if a guitar is moved around very much the guitar pressure against these cleats will wear the plush fibres down AND CAUSE RASH ON THE GUITAR. Other loose things that work their way into a guitar case will also cause marks and rash. BUT, an old and very good trick for ANY guitar case is to put a clean soft bath towel in the bottom of the case, lay the guitar in and then lay the remaining towel across the top. Use a white towel and you will be able to see if and when it needs to be washed. You will see many old experienced Players doing this with their instruments. Hang or lay the towel close to you when you play, to periodically dry your hands and wipte the guitar if it gets wet from sweat. Then wipe the guitar off before putting it into the case. This should become a good and meaningful habit. About once a month spray a light mist of Ace LUB-E oil onto the towel and it will repel moisture and keep the guitar's finish and hardware plenished with just the right amount of oils and corrosion protection. I even lay a lightly misted baby diaper across my strings in addition to the towel. |
