Well bull butter and damn all those terrorist pygmies down in new guinnea ! ! !
The primer and epoxy did not set under heat to my satisfaction. When hardened it had a tacky feel to it which means that tackyness is throughout the epoxy and didn't cure. Since it was mixed properly it can only mean a bad batch of hardner made it to market.
Damn the torpedos ...steady as she goes.
The primer and epoxy is being removed from the pickup cover. The cover is being totally stripped, sanded, re-epoxied and sanded to form; Then primer and finish coats will be applied over the refaced epoxy this time. The pot metal is soft so this is actually a pretty easy stripping job and will make the cover much nicer ........if the terrorist pygmies don't turn their plough-shares into suitcase nukes.
Once the pickup cover / mounting plate is faced well, it can be repainted and textured, and ready for the pickup and electronics to be reinstalled. After that the remaining items are relatively short work ....if the terrorist pygmies don't riot.
Here's shots of the pickup cover being stripped before being put to bed for the night:
These are the uneven repair joints that I will face with epoxy. Close to OK now, but no cigar ! |
