HEADS UP, FOLKS: Harmony and Kay electrics are still sleepers and Awesome tone machines to get to know. I'd rather play them for myself or at gigs, than just about any new guitar from any company! Harmony's Rowe-DeArmond pick- ups are robust with compressed full tones great for Jazz or Rythm and banshees dying for high gain. Kay's "speed bump" and "soap dish" pickups (again Rowe - DeArmond) are likewise fat on clean tones and raucus as all getout at Blues, Rock and Raucus higher gains. Although they can be tweaked as well as any guitar usually is for a Player's preferences; I treasure a good original set-up because it forces a Player to reduce his / her flash and budget their notes and phrasing, which is considered the hallmark of becoming a good Player. As thrilling as driving an old flathead Ford roadster hotrod ! Harmony, followed by Kay, sold more guitars in the 1950's and 1960's than any other manufacturer; And there were "any" number of low-priced guitar makers and models that didn't ! Harmony and Kay were the "American Motors" of that era; And likewise my AMC AMX in the front yard would wax 99% of the major car companies' Muscle Cars of that era! |

HEADS UP, FOLKS: Harmony and Kay electrics are still sleepers and Awesome tone machines to get to know. I'd rather play them for myself or at gigs, than just about any new guitar from any company! Harmony's Rowe-DeArmond pick- ups are robust with compressed full tones great for Jazz or Rythm and banshees dying for high gain. Kay's "speed bump" and "soap dish" pickups (again Rowe - DeArmond) are likewise fat on clean tones and raucus as all getout at Blues, Rock and Raucus higher gains. Although they can be tweaked as well as any guitar usually is for a Player's preferences; I treasure a good original set-up because it forces a Player to reduce his / her flash and budget their notes and phrasing, which is considered the hallmark of becoming a good Player. As thrilling as driving an old flathead Ford roadster hotrod ! Harmony, followed by Kay, sold more guitars in the 1950's and 1960's than any other manufacturer; And there were "any" number of low-priced guitar makers and models that didn't ! Harmony and Kay were the "American Motors" of that era; And likewise my AMC AMX in the front yard would wax 99% of the major car companies' Muscle Cars of that era! |
