~ JBL Model E120 12" Speaker BASKETS ~

Page 1 ....... Page 2 >>>
People experienced with speaker electronics don't need much more than a Q/A email to me for any incidental Q they might have;  The pics and info here show quite well what's here.  But for folks that might need more info:

Due to digital cameras being able to "see" many more colors and hues than the average human can, the cameras pick up and produce many more details than the human eye can see.  These baskets are not as dirty as the pics might make an inexperienced viewer think;  These baskets will clean up very nicely and most speaker technicians do so when they are doing a recone, even replacing the rear label / cover that signifies what cone was put into the speaker.

Other than wiping down with a damp rag, I do not clean up vintage equipment unless a Customer asks me to;  Industry standard for some time now has been set by many experienced Buyers who would rather clean up an item themselves or have it done, rather than chance someone they don't know harming or ruining a piece of equipment.  However, IF A CUSTOMER REQUESTS, I can and would be delighted to expertly clean a speaker or basket.

These baskets should be cleaned up; Meaning wiped down, scrubbed down with a toothbrush, rinse-wiped, de-oxed and painted, ...before reconing.  The person I bought them from had them stored for several years sitting on a shelf.  I would not have purchased them had they not looked reconeable / serviceable.  Although cleaning the coil barrel and suspension attaching ring is all that is absolutely neccessary;  These baskets would clean up and repaint nicely and quite easily for a reasonably crafty person, as many reconers do as normal reconingservice;  Or a quick de-ox and spray can for a kamakazie job is not uncommon especially to road musicians and techs that know that's all that is really actually needed (the rest just cosmetic).  Some if not most reconers charge a small extra fee to do a professional cleaning & painting of baskets before reconing.

Were I still gigging I would not hesitate at all to recone and use these fine ear-eating speakers.

------------ oOo ------------
I have kept these shelved in air & water tight plastic bag and VCI corrosion inhibiting paper for about 8 years.  I held them in case I would need some nice 12" JBLs;  But now I am no longer gigging and need to clean out a lot of stuff I've collected and no longer have a compelling need for.
VCI corrosion inhibiting paper.
One cone is gone (top basket) while the other is present but surely not serviceable.
View of the other side.
Rear / label view of the top speaker basket.
Closer / easier to read the label.
Notice for non-techs:  8 ohms on this label is meaningless since the coil of a recone can be any common impedence desired, and the rear foil label would be replaced with the recone job.
