A strong cardboard outer carton is custom cut to house the inner carton. Appliance cartons are a great source for heavy / strong cardboard.
This outer carton is made to open like a guitar rectangular hard shell case.
Clearance must be left for packing between the inner and outer carton.
Nominally wadded balls of newspaper are placed into the bottom of the outer carton and the inner carton placed on that bedding.
Newspaper wadding is packed snugly along the sides of the inner carton. Then a top layer of wadded newspaper is placed on top; All calculated to compress as the lid is closed and taped securely shut as shown on the next page:
